Virginia to Texas car shipping spreads out more than our other busy Texas lanes. In Neptune Auto Transport’s records, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston took only about half of the cars from Virginia. San Antonio, Austin and El Paso took most of the rest, with San Antonio and El Paso together receiving about a quarter. Both are military cities, and so is much of Virginia. The median trip took 3 days once the car was loaded. If you are moving from Virginia to Texas, the tables below show where in Virginia the cars started and where in Texas they went, and the military section covers moves on orders.

Texas delivery areas. Virginia to El Paso and San Antonio made up about a quarter of the lane.
Delivery areaShare of deliveries
Dallas-Fort Worth26%
Greater Houston26%
San Antonio13%
Austin11%
El Paso11%
Other areas13%

From Virginia, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston took 52 percent of deliveries between them, split evenly. That is the lowest combined share of any of our busier lanes into Texas, where the two big metros usually take far more. San Antonio, including Converse and Hollywood Park, and El Paso each took more than one delivery in ten, well above their usual share, and Austin and Kyle about one in nine. The rest went to Killeen, Burton, Brownsville, East Texas and the Permian Basin.

Virginia pickup areas. Northern Virginia to Dallas and to Houston were the top pairings.

Northern Virginia45%
Fredericksburg and Stafford13%
Hampton Roads13%
Richmond and the Tri-Cities11%
Shenandoah Valley and Culpeper9%

Northern Virginia supplied close to half: Sterling, Chantilly, Manassas, Springfield, Alexandria, Fairfax and Arlington. Fredericksburg and Stafford, and Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Yorktown), each supplied about one car in eight. The Tri-Cities area south of Richmond (Chester, Fort Lee, Dinwiddie), the Shenandoah Valley and Lynchburg and Bedford made up the rest. Going the other way, cars on our Texas to Virginia route split between Northern Virginia, Hampton Roads and Fredericksburg, and Houston supplied four in ten pickups.

Military moves to Fort Bliss, Joint Base San Antonio and Fort Hood

The geography points at military moves. El Paso is home to Fort Bliss. San Antonio is home to Joint Base San Antonio, and several of our deliveries there went to Converse, next to its Randolph site. Killeen sits outside Fort Hood, which was called Fort Cavazos from 2023 to 2025. On the Virginia side, pickups came from Fort Lee, from Stafford next to Marine Corps Base Quantico, and from Virginia Beach and Norfolk around Naval Station Norfolk.

Our records do not say who moved on orders, and this lane has no single PCS rush: February and June were its busiest months and the rest of the year was fairly even. So we do not put a number on military moves. If you are moving on orders, we offer a military discount, schedule pickup and delivery around your report date, and meet you outside the gate when an installation will not admit a commercial carrier. Your installation’s transportation office decides what your orders cover; we arrange the transport itself. See military vehicle transport and our PCS car shipping guide.

Vehicles we ship from Virginia to Texas

Cars and sedans54%
SUVs and crossovers35%
Other vehicles11%

Cars and SUVs made up close to nine in ten vehicles; pickups, minivans and the occasional motorcycle made up the rest. About three in ten were model year 2010 or older, so tell us about anything that does not run. Moving two vehicles? Book them together, since one carrier can often take both on the same trip.

Open or enclosed from Virginia to Texas

Open carriers are the standard on this lane and the least expensive choice. Choose enclosed transport for a classic, a low sports car or anything with new paint, particularly in spring, when Texas has its hail season and a car on an open trailer is exposed for the whole trip. Enclosed trailers carry fewer cars, so give us a few more days of notice.

Getting ready for pickup in Virginia

  • On base? Most installations will not admit a commercial carrier, so tell us the installation and we will set a meeting point outside the gate.
  • Pull the E-ZPass transponder so it is not read on the drive south.
  • Line up Texas insurance. If you ship a car from VA to Texas to live there, you will need proof of coverage that meets Texas minimums to register it.
  • Photograph the car, note any damage and keep your copy of the Bill of Lading.

How the figures were produced

Every figure above comes from Neptune Auto Transport’s records of Virginia to Texas orders placed from October 2022 to July 2026, excluding voided orders. Areas are grouped by the first three digits of the ZIP code. Transit counts days from loading to delivery; every shipment on this lane had both dates. The comparison with other Texas lanes uses our lanes into Texas with enough volume to compare. Percentages are rounded to 100, and military locations come from ZIP codes and town names only. No individual order, customer or address is shown, and no figure here promises a price or a delivery date.
