Maryland to Texas Car Shipping
Door-to-door auto transport from Prince George’s County, Southern Maryland and the Baltimore area to Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio and the rest of Texas. In our records the median trip took 3 days once the car was loaded.
Maryland to Texas car shipping has a clear season in Neptune Auto Transport’s records. From March to May came 44 percent of pickups, more than on any of our 75 busiest lanes. Prince George’s County and Southern Maryland supplied almost half the cars, and the Baltimore area most of the rest. Dallas-Fort Worth took 42 percent and Houston 34 percent. If you are moving from Maryland to Texas, the median trip took 3 days once loaded, and Baltimore-area cars bound for Houston or Dallas took 2.
March to May: when Maryland moves to Texas
Spring was the busy time on this lane in our records. May alone held about one pickup in five, and September to November and December to February were the quietest stretches. If you ship a car from Maryland to Texas in spring, book a week or two ahead so the carrier and the date line up. Half our customers booked about a week or more before pickup.
Some of those moves ran between military towns. Two cars left Odenton, next to Fort Meade, one for Killeen and one for Fort Hood itself. A car from Upper Marlboro, beside Joint Base Andrews, went to the part of San Antonio that holds Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. Others left Lexington Park, outside Naval Air Station Patuxent River, and Indian Head. Our records do not say who traveled on orders, so we don’t claim a military share. If you are moving on orders, we offer a military discount and plan pickup around your report date. See military vehicle transport and our Virginia to Texas page, which covers more Texas posts.
How long does it take to ship a car from Maryland to Texas?
The median was 3 days from loading to delivery, and nearly nine in ten cars arrived within 2 to 4 days. The Baltimore area was a day quicker: its cars ran a 2-day median into Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth, against 3 days for cars from Prince George’s County and Southern Maryland. Houston deliveries ran 2.5 days at the median and Dallas-Fort Worth 3.
By road, Baltimore to Dallas is about 1,370 miles and Baltimore to Houston about 1,450. Before the car is loaded there is a pickup window, usually 2 to 5 business days after you book, which expedited auto transport can cut. Read these medians as history, not a set date.

Prince George’s County supplied a third of the cars: Bowie, Landover, Lanham, Laurel, Upper Marlboro, Hyattsville and Temple Hills. Southern Maryland (Waldorf, White Plains, Indian Head, Lexington Park) supplied one in seven. The Baltimore area, from Baltimore and Towson to Glen Burnie, Odenton, Bel Air and Annapolis, supplied most of the rest. Montgomery County supplied a single car, although it supplied a fifth of our Maryland to California pickups and about three in ten on our Maryland to Florida route.

Mostly sedans, plus a few motorcycles
| Vehicle type | Share of shipments |
|---|---|
| Cars and sedans | 64% |
| SUVs and crossovers | 25% |
| Motorcycles | 5% |
| Pickup trucks | 3% |
| Other | 3% |
Almost two in three were cars, and pickup trucks and vans together were fewer than one in thirty, one of the lowest shares of our 75 busiest lanes. Two motorcycles went from Bel Air and Temple Hills to Houston. If you ship a motorcycle, our motorcycle shipping service straps it upright on a wheel chock, on an open or enclosed carrier.
Open or enclosed from Maryland
An open carrier handles most Maryland to Texas auto transport at the lowest cost. Enclosed transport suits a classic, a new car or a motorcycle you want kept out of the weather, and it needs a few more days of notice. Our Baltimore auto transport page covers open and enclosed pickups across the city and its suburbs.
Before pickup: turn in your Maryland plates the right way
Maryland asks you to return your plates to the MVA when you move out of state, and to keep your insurance until you have the tag-return receipt. Cancel the policy first and the MVA can fine you for the lapse. The MVA’s returning your license plates page explains the drop boxes and the mail-in form.
- Keep your Maryland plates on the car for the trip, then return them once you register in Texas.
- Remove your E-ZPass so tolls on the way south are not charged to you.
- Leave personal items out, or keep a few light ones under the window line; see what a carrier allows inside.
- Note the odometer and any damage on the Bill of Lading at pickup in Maryland, and photograph the car.
How we measured it
We built this page from Neptune Auto Transport’s Maryland to Texas orders placed from June 2022 to June 2026, leaving voided orders aside. Areas come from the first three digits of each ZIP code. We measure transit from loading to delivery and drop two records whose delivery date came before or on the pickup day. Seasons are counted by pickup month, lane rankings use our 75 busiest interstate lanes, and shares are rounded to 100. No customer, order or address appears, and none of these figures is a quote or a delivery promise.
