RV transport, travel trailers and campers

Neptune arranges RV transport in the 48 contiguous states, from a 17 foot travel trailer to a fifth wheel over 30 feet. We have moved RVs in 38 states since July 2022. We are a broker: we arrange the move and dispatch it to a vetted carrier, and we do not own trucks or employ drivers.

Towaway, trailered, or driven

RV moves split three ways, and which one you need changes the price and the carrier pool more than the distance does.

Towaway

Your travel trailer or fifth wheel is hitched to the carrier's truck and towed. This is the most common way an RV moves, and it usually costs less than the alternatives, because it needs no extra equipment. Most RV shipping quotes assume a towaway unless you say otherwise, which is why the running gear question decides so much. It requires that the RV's own running gear is sound: tires with tread and age on their side, working bearings, working lights, and a coupler or kingpin in good condition.

Trailered

The RV rides on the carrier's trailer instead of rolling on its own wheels. This is for units whose running gear is not roadworthy, vintage campers, and anything being moved after storage where the tires have flat spots or the bearings have not been packed in years.

Driven

A drivable motorhome can be moved by a driver, which avoids the equipment question entirely but puts miles on the odometer and wear on the engine. For a Class A or Class C in running order it is often the practical answer over a long distance.

The two kinds of RV move, and why they price differently

This is the thing RV owners are rarely told. Looking across our own dispatch records, RV work is not one market, it is two.

The first is the short repositioning move. Florida to Florida is our single most common RV lane, followed by Texas to Texas and North Carolina to North Carolina. These are dealer transfers, storage moves, and getting a unit from a seller to a buyer a few counties away. Many deliver the same day they are picked up.

The second is the long relocation. Idaho to Florida, Wisconsin to Massachusetts, Minnesota to Florida. These are people moving, or snowbirds repositioning for the season, and they behave like any other long-haul move: they need a carrier already running that corridor, and they price on distance.

If your move is the first kind, do not let anyone quote it as though it were the second.

How much does it cost to transport an RV?

There is no flat rate, and we do not publish an RV price band. We have moved 62 RVs across four years, only a handful of them in the last twelve months, which is not enough to publish percentiles that would mean anything. We do not publish numbers we cannot stand behind.

What sets the price: length, which our records bucket as under 17 feet, under 30 feet, and over 30 feet; height, because an RV is tall before it goes anywhere near a carrier; width, since anything over 8 feet 6 inches is an oversize load with permits attached; whether it is a towaway, trailered or driven move; the condition of the running gear; how flexible your dates are; and whether both ends have room for a truck plus a 35 foot trailer to turn around.

A specialist prices your actual unit and your actual lane, then calls you back. Nothing is charged before a driver is booked.

How long does RV transport take?

RV shipping timelines are shorter than most people expect. Across the RV moves in our records, the median time from pickup to delivery was 2 days, and nine out of ten arrived within 4 days. Short in-state moves regularly deliver the same day. The long ones behave like any cross-country run: the driving is a few days, and the wait is for a carrier to come free on your corridor.

Booking an RV move

On the quote form, choose Other for the vehicle type. There is no RV option on the form, and Other routes correctly to our dispatch team. In the notes, give us length, height, width, and whether the tires and bearings are road ready. Those decide whether your move is a towaway or a trailered job, which is the biggest single factor in the price.
