Neptune arranges vehicle transport in the 48 contiguous states. Most of our work is not one kind of customer, it is a handful of recognisable situations, and each one wants something slightly different from a carrier. This page sorts them by situation rather than by trailer type, so you can find the one that matches yours.

When the work actually happens

Across 11,161 dispatched moves since May 2022, volume is not evenly spread through the year. August is the busiest month by a distance, running 42 percent above the monthly average. July is 32 percent above and June is 20 percent above. December is the quietest at 25 percent below.

That summer peak is not weather. It is three situations stacking on the same weeks: military PCS orders, students moving to campus, and families timing a household move to the school calendar. If your move falls in June, July or August, you are competing for the same trucks as everyone else in those three groups, and booking earlier is worth more than it is at any other point in the year. The other number worth knowing: 91.6 percent of what we move crosses a state line. This is long-distance work, and the pricing and timing habits of local towing do not carry over to it.

Military families on PCS orders

Orders arrive with dates attached, and those dates rarely bend. We arrange transport around report dates rather than around what is convenient for a truck, and a military discount is available. Base concentrations mean certain corridors run hot every summer, which is another argument for booking as soon as orders are in hand rather than when packing starts.

College students

Two windows, August and January, and both are short. A car shipped to campus usually needs to arrive in a narrow band before classes, which means a wide pickup window on your end and an early booking. Parents book most of these, and the vehicle is frequently older, which is worth mentioning at the quote stage because condition affects loading.

Families and individuals relocating

The most common situation we see. A household move where the car cannot be driven because someone is flying, because there are two cars and one driver, or because a 2,000 mile drive is not worth the wear. These usually pair a flexible pickup window with a firm delivery need at the far end.

Snowbirds

South in the autumn, north in the spring, and the same people most years. The corridors are well worn and the carriers who run them are booked early. Boats and RVs follow the same paths, which is why those pages exist.

Buying a car out of state

Online marketplaces, auction wins, and private sales a thousand miles away. The distinctive problem here is that you often do not control the pickup end: a seller who works, a dealer lot with limited hours, or a storage yard with a gate code. Tell us who is releasing the vehicle and when they are reachable, because that is what usually delays this kind of move rather than the driving.

Payment terms matter here too. Nothing is charged before a carrier is assigned, which means you are not out of pocket while a sale is still being finalised.

Dealers, auctions and wholesale

Repeat volume, tighter margins, and a different tolerance for delay than a retail customer has. Multi-car moves and regular lanes are quoted differently from one-off shipments.

Collector, classic and exotic owners

Low clearance, original paint, non-standard tie-down points, and sometimes a car that has not run in years. These are the moves where enclosed transport stops being an upgrade and starts being the sensible choice, and where telling us the ground clearance before pickup day saves a wasted visit.

Boat, RV and powersports owners

Different rules entirely. Beam decides a boat move, height decides an RV move, and a golf cart is cheap over distance because it fills deck space a car cannot use. Each has its own page because none of them prices like a car.

Anyone whose vehicle does not run

An inoperable vehicle needs a winch and a carrier equipped for it, which narrows the pool of trucks that can take the job. It is not a problem, but it has to be known at the quote stage rather than discovered at pickup. Say so in the notes along with whether it rolls, steers and brakes.
