New York Auto Transport & Car Shipping
Door-to-door car shipping to and from New York, fast, insured and affordable, connecting New York with all 48 contiguous states.
Neptune Auto Transport provides New York auto transport and car shipping to and from anywhere in the state and the rest of the country. We move cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans and other eligible vehicles with door-to-door service, on open or enclosed carriers, carrier insured and backed by a free, no-obligation quote. From New York City to Niagara Falls, a dedicated specialist coordinates every move with vetted carriers, start to finish.
We are a licensed and bonded vehicle transport company (USDOT 3824247, MC 1384866) operating in all 48 contiguous states. Our carrier network works the Northeast corridors. I-95, I-87 and the I-90 Thruway, every day, with departures in both directions. Whether you need to ship a car from New York to another state or transport a vehicle to New York, we have a carrier ready for your move.
Shipping a car out of the city has its quirks, narrow streets, impossible double-parking, buildings a 75-foot truck can't reach, and we know them all. Across the five boroughs, pickup is usually coordinated at a practical meeting point; upstate, Albany, Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo, the carrier can typically reach your door along the I-90.
Auto transport in New York
Auto transport in New York means loading your vehicle onto a professional carrier and moving it safely between your origin and destination, whether within the Northeast region or on an interstate route across the country. We handle three main flows: shipments to New York from other states, shipments from New York to the rest of the country, and long-distance moves connecting the New York area with California, Texas, Florida and Illinois.
We coordinate both residential pickups, at homes on Long Island, in the Hudson Valley or upstate, and commercial pickups for dealerships, auctions and fleets. Private car transportation is our bread and butter: residents buying a vehicle out of state, families relocating, students arriving on campus, and professionals moving for work. One car or several, the process is the same: transparent, insured and coordinated by a real person.
New York vehicle transport services
Not every shipment is the same. We offer a full range of New York vehicle transport options so you can choose exactly what your situation calls for:
Open carrier transport
Open auto transport is by far the most popular and affordable choice. Your vehicle rides on a multi-level open carrier, the same kind of truck that delivers new cars to dealerships. It's safe, efficient and widely available: roughly 90% of U.S. vehicle shipments use open carriers, which keeps pricing competitive and pickup windows short in New York.
Enclosed transport
Enclosed auto transport carries your vehicle inside a fully covered trailer, protected from weather, salt and road debris. It's the preferred choice for luxury and exotic cars and classic and collector vehicles that need maximum protection door to door.
Door-to-door transport
Door-to-door transport means we pick up and deliver as close to your address as safety and access allow. In dense NYC neighborhoods, apartment complexes or narrow rural roads, a full-size carrier can't always stop at your door; in those cases the driver coordinates a nearby, safe, legal spot and stays in touch throughout the move.
Truck, SUV & van transport
Beyond cars, we handle truck, SUV and van transport, crew-cab pickups, three-row SUVs and cargo vans, to and from New York. A vehicle's dimensions and weight affect transport requirements and price: a larger vehicle takes up more room on the carrier, so its rate is higher than a sedan's. Share the year, make and model when you quote so we assign the right equipment and give you an exact price.
Expedited transport & motorcycle shipping
When time is tight, expedited transport prioritizes your shipment with the first available carrier, usually within 24–72 hours. And for two wheels, motorcycle shipping uses specialized soft-strapping and, on enclosed moves, fully crated transport.
Shipping a car between states to or from New York
Interstate car shipping is one of the most common reasons customers reach out to us in New York. You can ship a vehicle from New York to another state or bring one from another state to New York, and in both cases we coordinate door-to-door pickup and delivery, no driving to a terminal.
Interstate vehicle transport solves a wide range of situations, and we see them every day:
- Moving. Families and professionals relocating in or out of the New York area who would rather ship the car than drive hundreds or thousands of miles.
- Buying & selling vehicles. Cars bought out of state, often with less rust than coastal ones, or sold to distant buyers who need interstate shipping.
- Students. Undergraduates arriving at New York campuses or heading out of state each semester with college student car shipping.
- Work relocation. Corporate transfers to and from New York City, one of the country's largest employment hubs.
- Snowbirds & seasonal travel. Residents wintering in the south who ship their vehicle with snowbird auto transport.
- Dealers & auctions. Volume logistics for dealers and auctions moving inventory across state lines.
We run New York's interstate lanes year-round, with especially strong corridors to Florida, California, Texas and Illinois. See the popular routes below for details on each.
Shipping a car between New York and Florida
This is the busiest single corridor we run out of New York, and it behaves differently from the rest of the state's lanes. It is worth understanding before you book, because the same shipment can cost and take noticeably different amounts depending on which month you pick.
The corridor runs on a calendar, not on distance
Southbound demand builds from October and peaks through December as seasonal residents move down. Northbound reverses in April and May. Inside those windows carriers can fill a trailer without leaving I-95, so trucks are plentiful but so are customers, and the flexible dates get taken first. Outside them the lane is quieter in both directions. If your dates are fixed and they fall inside a peak, book further ahead than you would on an ordinary lane. If your dates are loose, moving them by a week either side of the peak is the cheapest change you can make.
We publish what our own dispatch records show
Most companies will not put a number on this lane at all. We have published the actual tariff bands from Neptune dispatch records for both directions, with the sample size, the date range and the exclusions stated on the page, so you can see the spread rather than a single marketing figure. The detail lives on the two route pages: New York to Florida auto transport and Florida to New York auto transport. Read the direction you are actually shipping. The two are not mirror images of each other, and the difference is seasonal rather than about mileage.
Pickup in New York is usually the harder half
Delivery in Florida is generally straightforward: wide roads, driveways, and space for a full-size carrier, with gated communities and HOA rules the main thing to check in advance. The New York end is where the planning goes. A loaded carrier runs 75 to 80 feet, and most of New York City cannot take one. Manhattan is effectively out, and much of Brooklyn and Queens means a meeting point on a wider commercial street rather than a pickup at your door. If your car lives in a parking garage, tell us at quote time, since the driver needs somewhere legal to stand while it is walked out to them.
Long Island, Westchester and the Hudson Valley behave much more like the Florida end and are usually straight door to door. Upstate, from Albany through Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo, sits off the I-95 corridor, so those pickups are more often routed through a carrier already running I-90 rather than one heading down the coast. Seasonal moves in either direction are handled through snowbird auto transport.
New York vehicle transport company
When you're choosing a car shipping company for New York, trust is everything. Neptune Auto Transport coordinates your vehicle's move end to end: we verify each carrier's active authority, cargo insurance and safety record before assigning it to your shipment.
Neptune operates nationwide from its base in Brooklyn, New York, under federal credentials USDOT 3824247 and MC 1384866, with an A- BBB rating. We don't keep walk-in offices in every city; instead, a dedicated specialist coordinates your move by phone and email, which lets us deliver the same quality of service in NYC, Buffalo, Albany or anywhere in the state. To arrange a shipment to or from New York you can contact us, call (929) 566-5872, or request a free quote online. You can read what other customers say in our reviews.
Cities and regions we serve across New York
New York is a state of contrasts for auto transport: the densest city in the country in the south and vast rural stretches in the north. Pickup and delivery conditions change by area, and we tailor every move accordingly.
- New York City. Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island account for the highest shipment volume in the state. Narrow streets, traffic and parking rules mean a full-size carrier rarely stops at your door, so we coordinate a nearby meeting point on a wide avenue or accessible lot, routine for our drivers and included at no extra cost.
- Long Island. Nassau and Suffolk mix easy-access suburbs with coastal communities. Most residential addresses allow curbside pickup; very narrow streets use the same nearby meeting point.
- Hudson Valley & northern suburbs. Westchester, Yonkers, White Plains and the towns along the river offer good access via the I-87 Thruway and make door-to-door pickups straightforward.
- Upstate. Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, Binghamton, Utica, Schenectady, Troy and Niagara Falls have wide streets and easy I-90 access, where the carrier can usually reach your door. The winter factor to watch is lake-effect snow in the western part of the state.
- Rural areas. In the Adirondacks, the Catskills and towns far from the interstates, pickup windows can be a little longer and a meeting point on the nearest main road is sometimes arranged. We reach these communities just like the big cities.

We ship to and from communities across New York, New York City and Brooklyn, Long Island, Westchester, the Capital Region and the whole of upstate.
How much does it cost to ship a car to or from New York?
New York car shipping prices depend on the specifics of your move, and no honest company can give a fixed number without your details. The biggest factors are:
- Distance. Longer routes cost more overall, but the cost per mile drops with distance.
- Origin and destination. Major metros with plenty of carriers are cheaper to serve than remote rural addresses off the interstate.
- Vehicle size and condition. Trucks, SUVs and vans weigh and take up more than a sedan; inoperable vehicles need a winch and may carry a small surcharge.
- Open vs. enclosed. Enclosed costs substantially more than open transport: fewer vehicles per load, scarcer equipment, higher insurance requirements.
- Season and route demand. Fall and spring snowbird peaks raise demand on the Florida corridor.
- Pickup accessibility and date flexibility. Tight city streets and rigid dates cost more; flexibility helps lower the price.
For affordable New York car shipping, compare total service value rather than the lowest number, a rate that’s too low often means weeks of waiting for a carrier to accept it. Booking ahead, staying flexible on dates, choosing open transport and using high-volume lanes like New York’s are the best ways to keep costs down. We don’t claim to be the cheapest; we give you a clear, all-inclusive price with no hidden fees. Those are the levers, and they are the reason we quote the move rather than publish a table.
A specialist prices the actual corridor, your actual vehicle and your actual dates, all-inclusive, with nothing added later. Tell us the two cities and what you are shipping and you will get a real number rather than an average that was never about your move.
How long does it take to ship a car to or from New York?
It helps to separate the pickup window (how long until a carrier collects your vehicle) from the transit time (how long the trip takes once loaded). Standard pickup is usually assigned within 2–5 business days; expedited service shortens that to 24–72 hours. Once on the road, regional Northeast moves are quick, while coast-to-coast runs take over a week. The table shows typical transit once loaded:
| Route | Distance | Estimated transit |
|---|---|---|
| New York → Boston | ~215 mi | 1–2 days |
| Buffalo → New York | ~370 mi | 1–2 days |
| New York → Chicago | ~790 mi | 2–4 days |
| New York → Atlanta | ~875 mi | 2–4 days |
| New York → Miami | ~1,280 mi | 3–5 days |
| New York → Dallas | ~1,550 mi | 5–6 days |
| New York → Houston | ~1,630 mi | 5–7 days |
| New York → Phoenix | ~2,410 mi | 6–9 days |
| New York → Los Angeles | ~2,790 mi | 7–10 days |
| New York → Seattle | ~2,850 mi | 7–10 days |
Weather, traffic and carrier availability can shift these windows. We don't promise guaranteed delivery dates, but your specialist keeps you informed at every stage and flags any change proactively. For more detail, see our guide on how long car shipping takes.
New York car shipping by season
Seasonality affects demand, scheduling and price for New York vehicle transport in very concrete ways:
- Winter. Lake-effect snow around Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse can pause loading a day or two between December and February; carriers wait for roads to clear. The southbound corridor, by contrast, runs all year.
- Snowbird season. Each fall, thousands of New York residents ship a car to Florida and Arizona, returning in spring. These peaks raise demand; booking weeks ahead locks in better rates. See our snowbird shipping guide and fall & winter booking tips.
- Summer. Peak moving and job-relocation season, with steady demand on every lane.
- Fall & holidays. College moves and year-end holidays raise both traffic and shipping demand; booking 2–3 weeks ahead helps avoid the rush.
How does auto transport in New York work?
Our process is simple and transparent, in four steps. See the full detail on how it works:
- Request a quote. Share your origin, destination, vehicle and approximate dates. You get a clear, all-inclusive price with no obligation.
- Schedule your transport. Confirm the details and book your pickup window. We assign a vetted carrier for your route.
- Vehicle pickup. The driver inspects and documents the car's condition, loads it, and you both sign the Bill of Lading.
- Vehicle delivery. At the destination you inspect the car with the driver, confirm everything is in order and sign for delivery. Have your agreed payment method and ID ready.
How to prepare your vehicle for transport
Good preparation makes for a smooth pickup and a hassle-free delivery. Before the carrier arrives:
- Remove personal items. They aren't covered by cargo insurance and add weight.
- Document the vehicle's condition. Wash the car and photograph any existing damage from several angles.
- Tell us if the vehicle doesn't start so we assign a carrier with the right equipment.
- Hand over one set of keys and have any needed documentation ready.
- Make the vehicle accessible and leave about a quarter tank of fuel.
- Remove toll transponders and disable the alarm to avoid charges and false alerts in transit.
