Which boroughs and suburbs got the Georgia cars?

Delivery areaShare of deliveries
New York City50%
Long Island21%
Westchester and upstate New York29%

Georgia to NYC car deliveries made up half the total: twelve of 24 cars went into the city. Brooklyn took five, Staten Island three, the Bronx two, and Manhattan and Saint Albans in Queens one each. Long Island took five, from Elmont and Inwood on the Nassau line out to Freeport, Bellport and Middle Island. In Westchester, White Plains took two and Yonkers one, and upstate deliveries went to Syracuse, Rochester, and Watertown and Theresa near Fort Drum. For a move on orders, our military vehicle transport page covers the military discount.

City delivery works differently from a suburban driveway. On a block where a full-size carrier cannot stop, the driver calls ahead and meets you on the nearest wider street or a lot close by; our New York City page covers how that works borough by borough.

What does a car cost from Atlanta to Brooklyn, the Bronx or Staten Island?

City delivery, the vehicle and your dates all move the number. Each row below rests on at least three separate shipments dispatched from August to October 2026, for a vehicle that runs, on an open carrier, door to door.

The median trip took 2 days once the car was loaded, and 20 of 23 timed trips arrived within 2 days. Cars from metro Atlanta to New York City took 2 days at the median, and deliveries outside the city took the same. Pickups spread across the metro, Marietta, Duluth, Douglasville and Atlanta twice each, and on to Covington, McDonough, Senoia and Stone Mountain; the rest came from Savannah twice, Brunswick, Americus and Blairsville.

Google’s driving estimate makes Atlanta to New York City 864 miles, about 13 hours on I-85 and I-95, the kind of drive most people split over two days. Before any of that comes the pickup window: on standard service a carrier is usually assigned 2 to 5 business days after you book, and expedited auto transport trims it.

Georgia issues no inspection sticker: what that means for New York plates

The New York DMV asks a new resident to register within 30 days, with a New York insurance policy in place first; it does not accept out-of-state coverage of any kind. Bring proof of ownership and proof that sales tax was paid or does not apply.

The inspection is where Georgia cars differ. New York honors another state’s inspection only when that state issues an inspection sticker. Georgia has no safety inspection, and its emissions results in the 13 metro Atlanta counties go to the tag office electronically, with a paper report for you and no sticker on the glass. So plan on a New York State inspection after you register. That inspection also checks window tint: New York wants the windshield and front side windows to let in at least 70% of the light, while Georgia allows side windows as dark as 32%, so film that was legal in Atlanta can fail in New York. On sales tax, the DMV’s form DTF-803 claims the exemption if you bought the car while living outside New York, and DTF-804 gives credit for another state’s tax only where the two states have an agreement, as the DMV’s sales tax page explains. What registration costs depends on the car and your county: New York sets the two-year fee by weight, New York City and several counties add a vehicle use tax, and the 12 counties of the commuter district, from Long Island to the Hudson Valley, add a supplemental fee, as the DMV’s fee page lists.

Should the Peach Pass come off before a Georgia pickup?

A standard Peach Pass is a sticker on the inside of the windshield, and Peach Pass says a removed tag should be thrown away, not reused. So leave it where it is; if you will not be back on Georgia’s toll lanes, deactivate it in your Peach Pass account instead. If you also carry a portable E-ZPass for the Northeast, take it out of the car or seal it in its bag.

Leave about a quarter tank, empty the trunk of loose items, and make sure someone can meet the driver at the New York end, since delivery often comes two days after loading. Walk around the car with the driver at both ends and note any marks on the bill of lading.

Most were cars, from a Chevrolet Cruze and a Nissan Sentra to a 2022 Lexus ES 350, a Mercedes SLK 250 and a Mercedes S550. The SUVs ranged from a Mazda CX-30 to a Hummer H2, an Infiniti QX56 and a 2023 Acura MDX, alongside a Toyota Tacoma and a Chevrolet Colorado. Open carriers moved them at the prices above; for a car worth keeping out of winter road salt on the way north, enclosed auto transport keeps it covered for a higher price, and luxury car transport covers higher-value vehicles.

How we measured it

Our figures on areas, timing and vehicles come from Neptune Auto Transport’s Georgia to New York shipments picked up from January 2023 to August 2026: 24 orders, after leaving out one voided order. Each area groups ZIP codes by their first three digits, with Nassau County ZIP codes on Long Island; 23 trips are timed from loading to delivery, with one that has no delivery date left out; shares are rounded to 100. The price table comes from a different source, recent comparable shipments dispatched from August to October 2026, and it is not a quote.

Yes. The assigned carrier’s cargo insurance covers it, and Neptune only assigns carriers with at least $100,000 of cargo coverage, usually $100,000 to $250,000, finding higher limits for a more valuable car. We send you the carrier’s insurance certificate, and a damage claim goes to that insurer with our paperwork behind it.
