Pickup trucks and SUVs were one in six each. No lane among our 75 busiest had a smaller SUV share, and only two had more pickups. Model years ran older than on most of our busy lanes: three in ten were 2010 or older. A standard pickup ships like a car; tell us about a lift, a cap or a loaded bed when you book, because height and weight decide where it rides.

Moving from Pennsylvania to Texas: plates, title and TxDMV

Pennsylvania plates stay with you, not the car. Once you have Texas plates, PennDOT asks you to mail the Pennsylvania plate to its Return Tag Unit, which protects you if someone tries to use it. The address is on PennDOT’s moving out of Pennsylvania page. You can drive on your Pennsylvania registration until then.

At the Texas end, TxDMV gives new residents 30 days to register. Most passenger cars no longer need a Texas safety inspection. A car registered in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston or Austin-area counties, including Travis and Williamson, needs an emissions test first, so most cars on this lane need one. TxDMV’s New to Texas page lists every county.

Open or enclosed from Pennsylvania

An open carrier handles most Pennsylvania to Texas auto transport at the lowest cost. Enclosed transport is worth the premium for a classic, a collector truck or a car leaving a Pennsylvania winter with fresh paint, and it needs a few more days of notice. Our Pittsburgh auto transport page covers enclosed pickups in western Pennsylvania.

Booking a Pennsylvania to Texas move in any month

This lane had no busy season in our records: each third of the year held about a third of the pickups. Half our customers booked 10 or more days before pickup, which is a comfortable lead time in any month.

  • Give us a pickup window of a few days rather than one date.
  • Remove your E-ZPass so tolls on the way south are not charged to you.
  • Empty the trunk except for light items below the windows; our guide explains what can ride inside.
  • Walk around the car with the driver in Pennsylvania, note any scratch on the Bill of Lading, and keep your copy.

How we measured it

This page draws on Neptune Auto Transport’s records of Pennsylvania to Texas orders from August 2022 through August 2026; voided orders are not counted. A ZIP code’s first three digits decide its area. Every shipment on this lane had a loading and a delivery date, and transit is the gap between them. The month of pickup sets the season. Rankings compare this lane with our 75 busiest interstate lanes and the 18 busiest into Texas, and table shares are rounded to total 100. Nothing identifies a customer, and nothing here promises a price or an arrival day.
