Michigan to Texas Car Shipping
Door-to-door auto transport from Flint, Grand Rapids, Detroit and its suburbs to Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio and the rest of Texas. In our records the median trip took 3 days once the car was loaded.
Michigan to Texas car shipping, in Neptune Auto Transport’s records, starts outside metro Detroit almost half the time. Flint, Saginaw and the Thumb supplied 28 percent of pickups and Grand Rapids 18 percent. December to February held a third of pickups, a larger winter share than on any of our 75 busiest lanes, and winter cars arrived a day sooner. Houston took 40 percent of deliveries and Dallas-Fort Worth 36. If you are moving from Michigan to Texas, the median trip took 3 days once loaded.
Flint, Grand Rapids and Detroit: where the cars start
| Pickup area | Share of pickups |
|---|---|
| Flint, Saginaw and the Thumb | 28% |
| Northern suburbs (Oakland and Macomb) | 27% |
| West Michigan (Grand Rapids) | 18% |
| Detroit (city) | 12% |
| Western Wayne, Washtenaw and Monroe | 12% |
| Other areas | 3% |
Flint and its neighbors supplied more than a quarter of the cars: Flint itself six times, then Davison, Mount Morris and Sandusky in the Thumb. Grand Rapids and Middleville supplied almost a fifth. In metro Detroit, Bloomfield Hills, Southfield, Novi, Farmington, Warren and Clinton Township supplied a quarter, Detroit itself four cars, and Lincoln Park, Dearborn and Dearborn Heights four more. Going north, Flint and Grand Rapids take only about one Texas car in eight between them, so this lane leans on them in a way the reverse does not.
| Delivery area | Share of deliveries |
|---|---|
| Greater Houston | 40% |
| Dallas-Fort Worth | 36% |
| Austin | 9% |
| San Antonio | 6% |
| Other areas | 9% |
Greater Houston took 40 percent (Houston, Spring, Sugar Land, Porter, Rosharon, Hockley) and Dallas-Fort Worth 36 percent (Dallas, Plano, Irving, Keller, Southlake, Mansfield). Austin and Manchaca took three cars, and Seguin and San Antonio two. Victoria, El Paso and Wichita Falls took one each.
How long does it take to ship a car from Michigan to Texas?
The median was 3 days from loading to delivery, and nearly nine in ten cars arrived in 2 to 4 days. About one in ten arrived the next day. Metro Detroit pickups ran 2 days at the median, and pickups from Flint, Grand Rapids and the rest of the state 3. Houston deliveries ran 2 days and Dallas-Fort Worth 3. Going north, our Texas to Michigan lane also ran 3 days.
By road, Detroit to Houston is about 1,290 miles, Detroit to Dallas about 1,180 and Flint to Dallas about 1,210. Expect a pickup window first, usually 2 to 5 business days after booking on standard service; expedited auto transport can shorten it. These figures are from completed shipments, not a promised date.
December to February: the busiest months to head south
A third of this lane’s pickups fell between December and February, more than on any of our 75 busiest lanes, and September to December held four in ten. February to April was the quietest stretch. Going north, the same lane runs in summer, so the two directions barely overlap.
Winter did not slow the cars down. Pickups from December to February arrived in 2 days at the median, against 3 for the rest of the year. The first day on a Michigan interstate in January means salt and slush, and an open-carrier car arrives in Texas needing a wash. If you ship a car from Michigan to Texas in winter, book about a week and a half ahead; half our customers booked 11 or more days before pickup.

Newer cars, SUVs and a lot of Chevrolets
| Vehicle type | Share of shipments |

Chevrolet was the most common make, about one vehicle in five. Two motorcycles went from Sandusky and Middleville to Irving and Manchaca, and the oldest vehicle was a 1983 pickup truck from Grand Rapids.
Open or enclosed leaving Michigan
An open carrier handles most Michigan to Texas auto transport at the lowest cost. In winter, enclosed transport keeps a new car, a luxury car or a motorcycle off salted roads, and it needs a few more days of notice. Our Grand Rapids auto transport page covers enclosed pickups in West Michigan.
Before pickup in Michigan
- Book about a week and a half ahead, earlier from December to February.
- Clear the driveway and the street in winter, so the carrier can load safely.
- Take the snow brush and winter gear out, and keep any other items light and low (packing rules).
- Photograph the car once it is clean, since salt hides scratches, and keep the Bill of Lading.
How we measured it
We drew this page from Neptune Auto Transport’s Michigan to Texas orders placed from June 2022 to August 2026, leaving out voided orders. Areas follow the first three digits of the ZIP code. Transit counts from loading to delivery; one record without a pickup date and one that took more than 30 days are excluded. The pickup month sets the season. The comparison with Texas to Michigan uses yearly median prices for cars and SUVs, and we publish its direction only. Rankings use our 75 busiest interstate lanes and the 18 busiest into Texas, with shares rounded to 100. No customer data appears, and nothing here is a quote or a promised date.
