Maryland to Florida Car Shipping
Maryland to Florida auto transport, door to door, from Montgomery, Prince George’s and the Baltimore area to Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach and the rest of Florida. Our records put the median trip at 2 days.
Maryland to Florida car shipping, in Neptune Auto Transport’s records, mostly runs from the Washington, D.C. suburbs to South Florida. About two-thirds of our pickups (68%) were in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, against about four in ten on our other routes out of Maryland, and 64% of the cars went to Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach. The median trip took 2 days once loaded. In late September and early October 2026, most cars bound for South Florida went for about $900 to $1,100. Moving from Maryland to Florida? Here is the cost, the timing and Florida’s 10-day registration rule.
Montgomery and Prince George’s first: where our Maryland pickups started
| Pickup area | Share of pickups |
|---|---|
| Prince George’s County | 39% |
| Montgomery County | 29% |
| Baltimore area (Baltimore City and County, Anne Arundel, Carroll) | 32% |
Prince George’s County supplied 39% of pickups, from Laurel, Hyattsville and Bowie to Lanham, Upper Marlboro and Greenbelt. Montgomery County supplied 29%: Gaithersburg, the most frequent pickup town on the route, along with Silver Spring and Potomac. Together the two counties on the Maryland side of Washington supplied 68% of pickups. Across our other routes out of Maryland they supply about four in ten, and no other Maryland route with enough orders to compare leans on them as heavily.
The Baltimore area supplied the other 32%: three pickups in Baltimore itself, two in Pikesville, and Catonsville, Severn, Pasadena and Manchester. Cars took 2 days at the median from either side of the state. Starting across the Potomac instead? Our Virginia to Florida guide covers Northern Virginia.
Prices from Maryland to Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach
Almost every recent shipment behind these figures delivered to Southeast Florida, in Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach County, so read them as prices to South Florida. Orlando, Tampa Bay and the Panhandle may price differently. They show what an operable vehicle cost to move on an open carrier, door to door, in late September and early October 2026.
| Vehicle | Recent price range |
|---|---|
| Car or sedan | $900 to $1,100 |
| SUV or crossover | $900 to $1,100 |
| Pickup truck | $1,100 to $1,200 |
| Van | $900 to $1,100 |
These are recent typical rates, not a fixed price, and they change through the year. Your quote depends on the exact addresses, the vehicle, your dates and which carriers are heading south. In the same weeks, cars going the other way cost less for every vehicle type, as our Florida to Maryland route shows.
Every MD to FL quote we give is free and all-inclusive. No deposit is taken before a driver is booked; a reservation fee then holds the spot, and the balance goes to the driver at delivery (how booking works). Cargo cover comes from the assigned carrier, and we only use carriers that hold at least $100,000 of it, usually $100,000 to $250,000; a more valuable car gets a carrier with higher limits. We look at each carrier’s operating authority, insurance certificate and safety rating before it is assigned, and you get a copy of the certificate.
Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach took most of the cars
| Delivery area | Share of deliveries |
|---|---|
| South Florida (Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach) | 64% |
| Rest of Florida (Orlando, Tampa Bay, the Panhandle, Jacksonville) | 36% |
South Florida took 64% of the cars. In Broward County they went to Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Hollywood, Miramar, Pembroke Pines and Coral Springs; in Miami-Dade to Miami, Hialeah and Sunny Isles Beach; and in Palm Beach County to Boca Raton, West Palm Beach and Boynton Beach. That is a higher South Florida share than on any of our other routes into Florida with at least 25 shipments, where it was closer to four in ten. South Florida deliveries took 2 days at the median.
The rest went to Orlando, to St. Petersburg, Tampa and Davenport, to Panama City and Pensacola in the Panhandle, and to Jacksonville.
In South Florida, door to door often means a condo tower, a gated community or a building with a loading zone. The driver calls ahead, and where a full carrier cannot get in, you meet at the gate or a nearby lot. Mention gate codes, a guard desk or garage height limits when you book.
About 2 days on the road, whichever county you start in
From loading to delivery the median trip took 2 days, and about seven in ten cars arrived within 2 days. Pickups in the DC suburbs and in the Baltimore area both took 2 days at the median, and so did deliveries to South Florida.
By Google’s estimate, Baltimore to Orlando is about 892 miles, or 13 hours of driving, and Silver Spring to Miami about 1,065 miles, or 15 and a half hours, both straight down I-95. A carrier covers the same road with stops to load and unload other vehicles, so it takes days rather than hours.
The pickup date is set separately. It depends on where in Maryland the car is, which carriers are loading southbound and how much room your dates allow; we agree a window with you once a carrier is assigned, and expedited auto transport exists for a date that cannot move. The median describes finished trips, not a promised delivery date.
From a Tesla Model 3 to a Ram 2500: the vehicles on this route
| Vehicle type | Share of shipments |
|---|---|
| Cars and sedans | 46% |
| SUVs and crossovers | 36% |
| Vans, pickups and a motorcycle | 18% |
Cars made up almost half of what we moved south, among them two Tesla Model 3s, a Mercedes CLS550, a BMW 335, a Toyota Camry and a Kia Rio. SUVs were about a third, from a Jeep Wrangler and a Ford EcoSport to a Chevrolet Suburban and a 2024 Volvo XC90. The rest were a Kia Sedona and a Toyota Sienna, a Dodge Ram 2500 and a Nissan Frontier, and a Honda motorcycle. The median model year was 2016.
Most cars on this route ride an open carrier, the lower-cost option and the one the price table describes. An enclosed trailer is worth pricing for a valuable or freshly painted car, or a low one that needs a liftgate, and our open vs enclosed guide compares the two. Shipping an electric car? Ask us what charge level the carrier wants, and leave the charging cable in the car.
Can you put your car on the Auto Train instead?
The Auto Train is the other way to get a car south without driving it the whole way. It does not leave from Maryland: Amtrak runs it between Lorton, Virginia, south of Washington, and Sanford, Florida, north of Orlando, and you ride the same train as your car. At least one passenger has to be licensed to drive the vehicle, and Amtrak limits its length, height, width and ground clearance, so check the Auto Train vehicle requirements before you book.
The train suits you if you want to travel with the car and Sanford works as an arrival point. Door-to-door shipping suits you if you would rather fly, or if the car needs to reach Miami, Fort Lauderdale or Palm Beach, which are still several hours’ drive south of Sanford.
Delivering in South Florida during hurricane season
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 and peaks around September 10, according to the National Hurricane Center. Most of our Maryland to Florida deliveries end in South Florida, so if a storm is forecast near your delivery address, expect the date to shift and keep your plans loose until the car arrives. If you spend winters in South Florida and keep a home in Maryland, our snowbird auto transport service handles both legs of the year.
Registering your car in Florida within 10 days
Florida’s deadline is short. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles gives you 10 days to title and register a car with out-of-state plates once you take a job in Florida, enroll a child in a public school there or become a resident. Line up Florida insurance before the appointment: FLHSMV requires at least $10,000 of personal injury protection and $10,000 of property damage liability from an insurer licensed in Florida.
At a tax collector’s office or license plate agency, bring your ID, proof of the Florida policy, the Maryland title and form HSMV 82040. The VIN has to be checked in person, on form HSMV 82040 or 82042, by a police officer, a military police officer or a licensed Florida dealer. If a lender holds the title, FLHSMV asks you to contact the lender about moving it to Florida.
Back in Maryland, return your plates to the MVA and keep the Maryland policy until the MVA confirms the plates are cancelled, because dropping it first can lead to an insurance violation. Our Maryland to Texas guide walks through that plate return step by step, and our Florida auto transport page covers shipments to any other part of the state.
How we measured it
The shares, medians and vehicle mix come from Neptune Auto Transport’s own Maryland to Florida shipments picked up from June 2022 to August 2026, with voided orders left out. Areas are built from the first three digits of each ZIP code, and transit runs from loading to delivery, leaving out one same-day record and one order without a delivery date. Comparisons are against our other routes out of Maryland and into Florida, and percentages are rounded so each table adds to 100. The price table is separate: it reflects recent comparable shipments to South Florida in late September and early October 2026, not our order records, and it is not a quote. The page names no customer and no address, and none of it is a promise of a price or a date.
