Chesapeake Auto Transport & Car Shipping
Door-to-door car shipping across Chesapeake, from the Greenbrier corridor and Great Bridge to Deep Creek and the farmland south of the swamp.
Neptune Auto Transport arranges auto transport and car shipping to and from Chesapeake on open and enclosed carriers, door to door. We move cars, trucks, SUVs and motorcycles between Chesapeake and the other 47 contiguous states, with the assigned carrier’s cargo insurance verified before loading and one all-inclusive price agreed up front. Chesapeake is the easiest large city in Hampton Roads to get a car carrier into, and it is worth understanding why.
A big city built for big vehicles
Chesapeake covers roughly 350 square miles, more land than any other city in Virginia, and most of it was developed after the interstate era. That means wide arterials, generous turning radii, commercial corridors with real shoulder space and subdivisions with driveways. For a 75-foot car carrier, that combination is close to ideal, and door-to-door here genuinely tends to mean the door.
The road network reinforces it. I-64 crosses the north of the city, I-464 links it to Norfolk, I-664 runs west toward Suffolk and the Monitor-Merrimac crossing, and US-17 and US-13 carry the through traffic. A carrier working Hampton Roads can usually reach a Chesapeake address without touching a tunnel at all, which is a meaningful scheduling advantage over Norfolk or the Peninsula.
Districts and what to expect
- Greenbrier. Retail and office corridor with large lots and wide roads. The simplest loading in the city, and a common meeting point for customers from surrounding neighborhoods.
- Great Bridge. Established residential with mature streets. Access is good, though the Great Bridge Lock and the bridge openings on the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal can briefly hold traffic. Drivers who work the area know the schedule.
- Western Branch. Suburban and straightforward, oriented toward Portsmouth and Suffolk more than toward Norfolk.
- Deep Creek and South Norfolk. Older, tighter street grids in places, with some narrow blocks where a meet nearby is easier than a door pickup.
- South of the swamp. Below the Northwest River and around the Dismal Swamp the city turns rural, with long private drives and farm roads. Access is usually fine but the drive time out and back is real and affects scheduling.
Seasonal traffic on the Outer Banks route
The Chesapeake Expressway carries most of the summer traffic heading to the North Carolina Outer Banks, and on peak weekends it is heavily congested southbound on Fridays and northbound on Sundays. It rarely blocks a pickup outright, but it is a real factor in how a driver plans a summer Saturday, and it is one reason a mid-week pickup window can be easier to fill in July and August than a weekend one.
How car shipping to or from Chesapeake works
You request a quote with both ZIP codes, the vehicle and a rough date, and a specialist calls you back with an all-inclusive price. Once you accept, we dispatch into our vetted carrier network. A reservation fee is collected only after a driver has been assigned, and the balance is paid to the driver at delivery. You and the driver walk the vehicle and sign a bill of lading at pickup and again at delivery, which is the document that settles any damage claim.
Open or enclosed from Chesapeake
Open carrier transport covers most vehicles and most budgets. Enclosed auto transport is easier to arrange in Chesapeake than in the rest of Hampton Roads, for the same reason everything else is: a tall trailer does not need to clear a harbor tunnel to reach you. If you are moving a collector car out of the region, a Chesapeake pickup address is often the path of least resistance.
Larger vehicles are also comfortable here. If you are shipping a crew-cab pickup, a lifted truck or a full-size van, the access that makes Chesapeake easy for carriers applies to your vehicle too.
