Door-to-doorMedian transit 5 daysOpen or enclosed

Texas to Washington State car shipping is the longest trip on our Texas routes: in Neptune Auto Transport’s records the median took 5 days once the car was loaded, the most of the 17 Texas routes we track with 20 or more orders. Two-thirds of the cars went to Seattle and the Eastside, against about four in ten on our other routes into Washington, and most of them started in Dallas-Fort Worth or Houston. In recent months most cars ran about $1,450 to $1,600, and pickup trucks $2,200 to $2,700. Moving from Texas to Washington State? Here is the cost, the timing and the licensing steps.

Five days at the median, the longest trip out of Texas

From loading to delivery the median trip took 5 days, and 21 of 23 cars arrived within 6. No other Texas route we track with 20 or more orders had a longer median; Texas to New York came next at 4. The starting city mattered: cars from Dallas-Fort Worth to Seattle and the Eastside took about 4 days at the median, and cars from Houston about 5 to 6. The five trips since 2025 ran quicker, at 4 days.

Google puts Dallas to Seattle at about 2,097 miles, roughly 31 hours of driving on I-84, and Houston to Seattle at about 2,331 miles, close to 34 hours. A carrier covers that distance while loading and unloading other cars, so the pickup date is set separately and depends on where the car is, which carriers are heading northwest and how flexible your dates are. If a date cannot move, ask about expedited auto transport.

Dallas-Fort Worth supplied 43% of pickups: Dallas four times, plus Euless, McKinney, Argyle, Plano, Little Elm and Gainesville. Greater Houston supplied 39%, almost all from Houston itself, plus Galveston and Tomball. The other four cars came from Austin, San Antonio, Waco and Lubbock.

Nearly half the vehicles were SUVs, from an HR-V to a GLE

Vehicles we shipped from Texas to Washington State, shipments picked up from January 2023 to July 2026
Vehicle typeShare of shipments
SUVs48%
Cars and pickup trucks52%

SUVs made up 48% of the loads: two Honda HR-Vs, two Nissan Rogues, a Ford Escape, a Subaru Outback, a Buick Encore, a Ford Flex, a BMW X5, a Mercedes GLE and a Tesla Model Y. The cars ran from a Nissan Note and a Chevrolet Volt to Civics, an Accord and a Passat, and the two pickups were a Ford F-350 and a Ram 2500. The median model year was 2015.

Most went on an open carrier, which is what the price table describes. For the X5, the GLE or anything you would rather keep covered for 2,000 miles, ask us to price an enclosed trailer too. A heavy-duty pickup needs its own spot on the trailer, so mention lifts, racks and toppers when you book.

Licensing a Texas car in Washington: 30 days, no emissions test, and use tax

The Washington Department of Licensing gives new residents 30 days to get a Washington driver’s license and register the car. Driver and vehicle licensing are handled at separate offices, so plan two visits. Bring your Texas title, or ask the licensing office for its fax number if your lender holds it.

There is no emissions test: Washington ended its emissions check program on January 1, 2020. Washington does charge use tax on vehicles brought into the state, but the Department of Revenue exempts a car you owned and used outside Washington for more than 90 days before moving, as long as you license it within 30 days. Active-duty service members stationed here and still resident elsewhere can keep their home-state registration.

Seattle to Dallas: the reverse lane’s own record

Our Washington to Texas guide covers the opposite direction, where Seattle and the Eastside supplied close to half the pickups, Dallas-Fort Worth took almost four in ten cars, and the median was also 5 days. It also covers moves from Joint Base Lewis-McChord and the Puget Sound bases. For other routes out of Texas, see our Texas auto transport page.

How we measured it

The shares, medians and vehicle mix are Neptune Auto Transport’s own: Texas to Washington State shipments picked up from January 2023 to July 2026, leaving out voided orders and one off-road vehicle. ZIP codes are grouped by their first three digits, trips are timed from loading to delivery, comparisons are with our other routes into Washington and out of Texas, and shares round to 100. Prices are a separate set of recent comparable shipments dispatched May to October 2026, not our records and not a quote. We name no customer or address, and promise no price or date.
