Door-to-doorMedian transit 2 daysOpen or enclosed

Florida to Michigan car shipping runs in two seasons in Neptune Auto Transport’s records. In spring, most cars left the Tampa Bay, Sarasota and Fort Myers side of the state. In October, most left South Florida. Tampa Bay and Sarasota supplied as many cars as South Florida, and Orlando almost none. Six in ten went to metro Detroit and about a quarter to West and Southwest Michigan. Whether you are a snowbird heading home or moving from Florida to Michigan for good, the median trip took 2 days once loaded, a day less than our Michigan to Florida lane.

Spring from the Gulf Coast, fall from South Florida

March to May held a third of this lane’s pickups, one of the highest spring shares among our 75 busiest lanes. Seven of those ten spring cars came from the Tampa Bay, Sarasota and Fort Myers areas: Fort Myers, Venice, Tampa, Myakka City, and inland Lakeland and Avon Park. They went home to Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Saint Joseph, Mason, West Bloomfield and Troy.

October was the other peak, a quarter of the year on its own, and half of the fall cars left South Florida: Miami, Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale. November to January was the quietest stretch. Our records do not say who was a seasonal resident, so we don’t claim a snowbird share. If you winter in Florida and summer in Michigan, our snowbird auto transport service books both legs, and the snowbird car shipping guide covers the timing.

How long does it take to ship a car from Florida to Michigan?

The median was 2 days from loading to delivery, and nine in ten cars arrived within 2 to 4 days. Cars from the Gulf Coast and from South Florida both ran a 3-day median; pickups from Jacksonville, Daytona and the Panhandle, closer to Michigan, ran 2. Deliveries in metro Detroit and in the rest of Michigan both came in at a 2-day median.

Miami to Detroit is about 1,390 miles by road and Tampa to Detroit about 1,180, most of it on Interstate 75. Going south, the same lane ran a day longer, at 3 days. Booking comes first: on standard service a carrier usually picks up 2 to 5 business days after you book, and expedited auto transport narrows that window. The medians above describe finished trips, not a promised delivery date.

Half the vehicles on this lane were model year 2019 or newer, the newest mix of our 75 busiest lanes. Vans were one in ten, the highest van share of those lanes, and pickup trucks one in six. If you ship a van or a pickup, give us the make, model and any roof rack, lift or bed cover when you book, because height and length decide where it rides on the trailer.

Open or enclosed for the trip north

An open carrier handles most Florida to Michigan auto transport at the lowest cost. A car delivered in March or April can meet salted roads on the last stretch, so for a new car, a classic or anything with fresh paint, enclosed transport keeps it clean. It costs more and needs a few more days of notice. Our Detroit auto transport page covers enclosed carriers at the Michigan end.

Before pickup in Florida: timing and a Michigan title

  • Book a week or two ahead in spring, the busiest time for Gulf Coast pickups. Half our customers booked 7 or more days out.
  • Remove your SunPass or E-PASS transponder so tolls on the way north are not charged to you.
  • Pack light: anything left inside the car should sit below the window line.
  • Take dated photos of every side at pickup, and hold on to the Bill of Lading until the car is home in Michigan.
  • Moving for good? Michigan’s Secretary of State asks new Michigan residents to title and register right away. Bring the Florida title, proof of Michigan no-fault insurance and ID.

How we measured it

Everything on this page comes from Neptune Auto Transport’s own Florida to Michigan orders, placed between September 2022 and August 2026, minus voided orders. We sort pickups and deliveries into areas by the first three digits of the ZIP code. Transit runs from loading to delivery; two records with a missing or impossible delivery date are left out. Seasons follow the month of pickup, and comparisons with other lanes use our 75 busiest. Shares are rounded so each table adds to 100. We show no orders, customers or addresses, and no figure here is a price or a promised date.
