Aurora, IL Car Shipping & Auto Transport
Door-to-door car shipping to and from Aurora, open or enclosed, carrier insured. We work the I-88 corridor and the Fox Valley, and connect Aurora with all 48 contiguous states.
Aurora is the second-largest city in Illinois and one of the easier places in the metro to load a car. It sits directly on the I-88 tollway with I-355 and I-88 feeding it from the east and the Fox Valley spreading out around it, so carriers pass through constantly and most addresses can take a full-size truck at the curb. The complications here are administrative rather than physical, and they are worth knowing before you book.
Aurora sits in four counties, and that matters more than you would think
Aurora spans Kane, DuPage, Kendall and Will counties. For everyday life that is a curiosity. For a car arriving from out of state it is a real question, because Illinois runs emissions testing by county and by ZIP code, not by city name. Cook, DuPage and Lake are covered in full, while Kane, Kendall, McHenry and Will are covered only in part, determined by ZIP. Two Aurora neighbors on opposite sides of a county line can have different obligations.
The practical advice: once your car is delivered and you are registering it in Illinois, check your own ZIP against the current Illinois EPA program rather than assuming the answer from a neighbor. Testing runs on a two-year cycle by odd or even model year, and a vehicle first becomes eligible at four model years old. New residents also have 30 days from establishing residency to apply for an Illinois title and registration. Our Illinois auto transport page covers what that paperwork involves.
Pickup and delivery in Aurora
Most of Aurora is straightforward door-to-door territory. The subdivisions off Eola Road, Ogden Avenue and Route 59, the newer developments on the far east and far west sides, and the neighborhoods around Fox Valley Mall all have the street width and driveway access a carrier needs. In those areas the truck comes to the address and the handover happens there.
Two exceptions worth flagging when you book:
- Downtown Aurora and the older near-east and near-west neighborhoods. The street grid close to the Fox River and the Metra station is older and tighter, with narrower lanes and on-street parking on both sides. A driver may ask to meet at a nearby lot instead. It adds a few minutes, nothing more.
- Winter. From December through March, snow pushed to the curb narrows residential streets across the Fox Valley, and blocks a carrier could work in the fall become impractical. Expect more meeting points in those months.
The I-88 corridor works in your favor
The Reagan Memorial Tollway is the reason Aurora prices and schedules the way it does. I-88 runs east into the western suburbs and Chicago and west toward the Quad Cities and Iowa, joining I-80 for anything heading to the Mountain West and California. I-55 and I-80 are both a short run south. A carrier working a Chicago-area load can pick up in Aurora without leaving its route, which is why pickup windows here tend to sit at the shorter end of the usual 2 to 5 business days.
The lanes we run most from Aurora are the same ones that move out of the metro generally: Illinois to California and back at roughly 5 to 8 days in transit, Illinois to Florida at 3 to 5 days and busiest from October through December, and Illinois to New York at 2 to 4 days. Regional Midwest runs to Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Detroit and St. Louis are usually 1 to 2 days on the road.
What we move in and out of Aurora
- Household relocations. Families moving into the Fox Valley from out of state, and families leaving it. If you are flying and shipping the car rather than driving it, tell us the flight date and we plan the pickup backward from there.
- Vehicles bought out of state. Online purchases and private sales that need to reach an Aurora address. We can collect from a seller who is not you as long as someone can release the car and sign the inspection.
- Seasonal moves south. Aurora feeds the same October to December southbound wave as the rest of the Midwest, heading for Florida, Arizona and Texas, with the reverse in spring. See snowbird auto transport.
- Students. Aurora University, Waubonsee, and families sending students to schools out of state. August and late May are the crowded weeks. See college student car shipping.
- Non-running vehicles. Project cars, inherited vehicles and auction buys that will not start. Those go on winch-equipped carriers and need to be told to us up front, because it narrows which trucks can take the load.
Nearby Fox Valley communities
We serve the whole corridor around Aurora on the same terms: North Aurora, Montgomery, Oswego, Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, Yorkville, Sugar Grove and Plano. Most of it is comfortable door-to-door territory. Immediately east, Naperville shares the I-88 corridor and much of the same carrier traffic, and Chicago itself is a different proposition entirely, which our Chicago page explains.
